With taking a subject liking trying to buy best laptop under 400 dollars our job becomes easier and your choice becomes more difficult.

Basically the more you spent the more choice you’ll have. So we can now we are into sub-400 laptops the spec starts to go up and you can begin to think about luxuries such as better graphics cards.

best cheap laptops under 400 dollars

So you have 400 hard earned dollars burning a hole in your pocket, longing to be spent on the hottest best equipped laptop. Should you go large screen or get one of the gaming laptops? Well put simply, no! Yes the tech and spec is rising, but overall, lets try and be a bit more realistic.

I am going to show you top rated laptops for under $400 with Windows 7 and a few more bings, bongs and buzzers, but not always the very latest trends.

Before we start I have to own up to a bit of a bias. I am a little bit of a Dell fan.

My first laptop, which I got for about $350 was a refurbished Dell and I have continued to invest in them ever since.

What I like is that they are solid. Nothing flashy, not too risky and you know you get a workhorse that will last. So you will notice that I will tend to reference a Dell laptop if it is available under 400 bucks. But I will also spread the net wider for you as well.

Right lets get on with the action. Where should we start? Well I’m gonna get going straight away by using my favorite resource of Amazon.com. You know the reasons. Tons of options and plenty of buyer reviews and comments. You cant beat that as a solid starting point.

A Quick Buying Reminder

This is the sharp end of things and where your choice should be made.

First you can go brand new.

There are advantages, like having that fantastic new, out of the packet smell of untouched plastic. But on the other hand you will limit your options a lot.

These days I refuse to be shafted on new equipment that is a bit overpriced when the options for decent used and refurbished kit is so good. You can get a lot more for your money as well. I have said this before and will continue to say it, whether for a laptop under $400 or any other pricing you can think of. No apologies.

Best Buy Laptops Coming In Under $400

Dell D600 Laptop

I am looking at a whole load of these right now, ranging from just over $100 to about $300. You can see what I am talking about here.
This is no 2nd class citizen. Spec-wise it is pretty impressive and complete:

  • Intel® Pentium® M processor – 1.6 GHz
  • ATI® Mobility Radeon 9000 video chipset
  • 40GB Hard Drive
  • Wireless MiniPCI card

Not bad for the prices we are talking about.

All you have to do is check the grade it is classed as and decide if it is for you. It’s a nice middle of the road device.

Great for the whole family as it will easily cope with plain surfing, presentations for work and school, word processing and accounts as well as some games.

Just be sure to remember that this is not a top range gaming laptop so don’t expect to whizz through the latest first person shooters or large scale graphical strategies such as the latest Total War series.

Acer Aspire AS5750Z-4835 15.6-Inch Laptop

This is one of the most highly rated laptops for under 400 bucks you will find. Acer have come a long way and now have a great reputation for quality and performance.

My wife still has her Acer I bought for her about 5 years ago.

She just wont part with it for love nor money.

The specifications are more than adequate for most of what you might need at this level:

  • 2.0 GHz Pentium B940 providing a real speed kick
500GB hard drive which is more than enough for most users, even if storing loads of photographs.
  • It also comes with Windows 7 and wireless.
  • You can see the full details right here.
  • The graphics card is an Intel integrated one with 128GB of RAM. Not one of the top class choices, but an adequate performer for its class. But hey if you want a top gaming laptop under $400 you should have your head looked at right now.

For that you can part with another $1000 on top.

Now the really great thing here is that you can pick this gem up NEW for less than $400. A steal to my mind, especially when it sits at 4 stars with 76 reviews, most of which are positive.

Now if you look around on Amazon you can quite literally find hundreds of new, used and refurbished laptops of all sorts of condition and quality to buy.

But what I have tried to do here is pick two that stick out. Both are good specifications from companies with great reputations. As with anything else though, if buying second hand laptops less than $400, do your research look at the reviews for the sellers as well as for the laptops themselves.

Choose the retailer with the best reputation over time and you should be alright. Its all a matter of common sense and cutting your cloth to your budget. You don’t always have to but new, as by going down a different route you will probably get much more for the money you want to spend.
